Masevaux organ festival

The magical and enchanting registers of the Doller valley organs

The construction of the current church of St Martin dates back to the late 18th century and was completed in 1842. It is on this date that Joseph and Claude Ignace Callinet, organ builders at Rouffach, built a monumental organ of 53 pipes distributed over 4 keyboards and pedalboard that was no doubt the greatest achievement of these renowned builders.

Sadly, on 27 June 1966 a fire broke out and destroyed part of the building. But the construction of a new organ soon began.
The choir organ of Curt Schwenkendel and the great organ of Alfred Kern, both organ builders from Strasbourg, built in 1971 and 1975 respectively in the new church, are at the root of the International Organ Festival that Pierre Chevreau created in 1977 to celebrate this capital of the pipe organ.

For more than 30 years, the Masevaux Festival has perpetuated the beauty of its two organs and the magical impressions they evoke. The programme and venues vary from year to year, allowing a diversity of concerts. This event attracts an audience who are always keen to share a moment of tranquility dedicated to organ music and sacred music.
